The Bolytag Centre for International Diplomacy and Strategic Studies (BOCIDASS) is one of Africa’s foremost think-tanks on international diplomatic practice and strategic studies. Professionalism and excellence in scholarship are the watch words at the BOCIDASS as it parades seasoned diplomatists and scholars of international repute. Thus, it is well-positioned to live up to the expectations of a standard think tank on international relations.

In view of the fact that the requirement of a scientific research technique is the current trend in the whole process of designing and determining policies in international diplomatic relations, BOCIDASS has introduced an efficient research approach in its research and training programmes: it must be strategic in analysis; applicable and implementable in execution, as well as beneficial in final outcome. This is what we have called RASA.

Responsive, Applicable and Strategic Approach (RASA)
Our centre believes that a research issue and investigation should first be made responsive to Nigeria’s foreign policy concerns and then to Africa’s, especially in terms of promotion and protection of Africa’s regional and Nigeria’s national interests. The outcome of research, in terms of recommendations, should also be relevant to the manpower need of the people and applicable in the development and implementation processes.

Regarding strategy, every research undertaken should not simply focus on scientific articulation of the problems but must also engage in strategic calculation of all possible scenarios, with emphasis on the long term implications, as well as on the modalities for resolving whatever problems that are identified. This is where knowledge discovery and management is of importance. RASA therefore underscores a marriage of theory and practice.
At the BOCIDASS, we therefore promote knowledge discovery on the basis of open exchange of ideas; collaboration with individuals, corporate bodies and governments in pursuance of our democratic and academic freedom, objectivity and honesty of purpose, based on scientific parameters.

The doors of BOCIDASS are therefore widely opened to all students, undergraduate and post-graduate, of international relations, aspiring diplomats and international functionaries, diplomatic correspondents, and all public and private sector officials who have dealings with international relations to apply to register their membership with the BOCIDASS and train to become professionals.
